On Justice…

Tonight, will be the Nehemiah Action that is part of BRIGHT the justice ministry our church is a part. We will be meeting to talk about the research we have done as we uncover the difficulties of affordable housing and the dismal reading scores of our precious children. We will offer solutions that have been proven effective in over 800 counties that have put these practices into effect. We will ask our county and school board officials to join with us to fight for the lives of people who are negatively impacted by not being able to afford a place to live or who are unable to read or read well. We will continue to work towards a community that sees all people as worthy and deserving as we meet the basic needs of all our community members.

I invite you to join us this evening. You won’t be disappointed. The event will begin at 6:30p and is being held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 5625 Holy Trinity Drive, Melbourne Fl 32940. The doors will open at 5:30p. I encourage you to get there early. To expedite your registration for the event, there are tickets available in the church office. Just come by and pick one up and fill in your name and email address.

Justice is important. As Christians we are called to do justice. Micah 6:8 asks the question: “What does God require of you?” The prophet also supplies the answer so there is no question about what we are called to do on God’s behalf. The answer: We are to Act Justly, Love Mercy, and Walk Humbly with God. Loving mercy and walking humbly with God, working toward our discipleship with God, we seem to get and do. But acting justly? That takes a lot of work, and we can’t do it on our own.

Justice takes people banding together to hold our officials accountable to the jobs we elected them to do. It takes people banding together to bring to light the ways others are being treated unjustly. It takes a lot of people working together to do justice. I hope you will join us April 24th to be present as we work toward a more just community.

For those who do not live in Brevard County, there are justice ministries throughout Florida and in other states. I encourage you to look into joining one. It will be time well spent.

Peace,

Pastor Beth
