You may be wondering why I am choosing to write about what probably seems like a rather random day. Well, I could tell you that in 1961 the first episode of Wide World of Sports premiered on ABC. A great show BTW. I could also tell you that it was the day in 1945 that Dachau concentration camp was liberated by the allies. But instead, I will tell you on this day in 1991, I went into labor, one week early, with my youngest child.
And the thing I learned that day, was my son would grow up to be impatient. My entire labor and delivery lasted a whopping 45 minutes. We almost did not make it to the hospital, and I was certain he would be born in the elevator. I did make it to a gurney in front of the nurse’s station where in total comedic style, while one nurse was delivering my son, another was sitting at the computer station asking me all the questions. Name…date of birth…address…etc…It was quite surreal to say the least. Neither my first husband or my doctor made the delivery and my husband drove me to the hospital!
My son was in a hurry to get here, and he has been in a hurry ever since. Always impatient to be at the next stop on his journey and never enjoying the journey itself. But, on the lighter side, growing up, he could always make me laugh with his goofy antics and funny ways. I still remember the time when my first husband was worried about him reading the Harry Potter series of books. I thought his worries were ridiculous, but he insisted he needed to talk to our son. He stood there as his dad said what he needed to say and then: “Dad you do know this is just a make-believe story, right?”
So, to my youngest son, I not only wish you a Happy Birthday, I wish you happiness in your life journey. May you learn to slow down and enjoy each day for what each day brings. May you learn what gives meaning to life. Find the roses so you can enjoy their beauty. Love you!
I addition to my son, I also know quite a few people who have April 29th as their birthday. So Happy Birthday to all those who were born on April 29th! I hope you have an amazing day celebrating the wonderful person each of you are.
For all who read my blog posts, whenever you celebrate your birthdays, I hope you have wonderful celebrations as you make memories with each passing year. Enjoy your own journey and learn to be authentically you. Because being you, who God created you to be, is living your best life. I am still learning to be me, my life has had a detour or two, but I think I am getting there as I approach my own rather significant birthday toward the end of the year.
Peace,
Pastor Beth
