I loved the Bangles when they came out. One of the songs they did and I found a lot of fun to sing besides their hit “Walk Like an Egyptian,” was the song “Manic Monday,” and part of the chorus is, It’s just another manic Monday. Mondays can be rather manic and right now, I feel the lyrics a lot. The song begins with the words, “Six o’clock already…” Boy can I relate! I do not want to get out of bed in the mornings. I used to. I was a very early riser typically getting up around 5:30 – am not pm…but lately…I think my snooze alarm button is going to break if I don’t stop hitting it!
The past year has been a whirlwind of busyness! I am still working full time doing a job I love. I have gone back to school to get my Spiritual Direction certification. Which has been so much fun, but also a lot of work. And I have been doing the Ignatian Exercises with my own Spiritual Director, which has also been good, but hard. Then there are the family things that I am helping out with. So busy. But then I am not alone in being busy. I know many of you are juggling a lot too. And then throw in a crisis or two that have come my way and yeah…I am hitting that snooze button just a few too many times!
So, I feel this particular song right now especially the words: “I wish it was Sunday, ‘cause that’s my fun day…my I don’t have to run day…” We can get so caught up in doing and being busy, we forget we also need fun days. I hope everyone has some fun days planned or in the works as we are counting down the days to summer! And you know, those plans could be BBQs with friends and family, a hike in the woods, going to a local museum, even a trip to get an ice cream. I am privileged to live 6 miles from Cocoa Beach so…vacation destination is in my backyard…and bonus! Its free. Which is the other thing fun can be, free. I really do hope and pray that everyone plans something fun not just over the summer but all year long and remember, fun doesn’t have to be expensive!
